GETTING READY FOR YOUR PROJECT
When thinking about an Extension or Conversion project it can be hard to know where to start but here are a few key areas to consider before starting.

PLANNING PERMISSION / PERMITTED WORK
Dependant on the size of your extension this will determine if you need to apply for planning permission or if it is permitted development through local council.
To apply for planning permission this can be done through the Planning Portal or by contacting your local planning authority through your local council.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
A Structural Engineer will compile the structural calculations for any elements of the building work needed. We can help put you in touch with a Structural Engineer as with any of the professions you are welcome to nominate your own.
BUILDING REGULATIONS
This is required on most contracts. Building control look after your interests and visit on a regular basis throughout the build process to ensure that the builder is complying with all current building legislation and requirements. You can use your Local Authority or a private company.
ARCHITECT
An Architect can be invaluable in fielding huge amounts of paperwork and support in choosing the right design. They can in most cases help resolve objections from neighbours, Local Authority or even the highways department. They also help to work with Welsh Water and Planning Permissions. Although it is not a must to have an Architect, dependant on the scope and size of the project you may want to consider hiring an Architect.
